Global drought has become a crucial issue that overshadows world food security. Decreased rainfall, climate change and human activities contribute to more intense and prolonged droughts. This phenomenon not only impacts the agricultural sector, but also threatens economic stability, community life and the ecosystem. Drought directly affects crop yields. Plants need water to grow, and without an adequate water supply, the quality and quantity of food production will decrease drastically. In highly affected areas, such as Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia, it turns out that more than 80 percent of the population depends on agriculture for a livelihood. A large-scale reduction in crop yields means a threat to people’s nutrition and an increase in hunger. Innovative adaptation strategies are key to overcoming the impacts of drought. The use of drought-resistant crop varieties, utilization of advanced irrigation technology, and implementation of sustainable agricultural practices have proven effective. For example, precision farming methods can maximize the efficiency of water and fertilizer use, thereby reducing negative impacts on the environment. From a policy perspective, Governments and international organizations need to work together to improve water management systems. Investment in water storage infrastructure and efficient irrigation systems is essential. Apart from that, there is a need for public education regarding sustainable management of natural resources. Climate change also plays an important role in exacerbating global drought. Rising global temperatures contribute to faster evaporation, reducing water availability in the soil. Therefore, mitigating climate change through reducing greenhouse gas emissions is an integral part of a long-term approach to drought management. On a global scale, international cooperation is necessary to share knowledge and resources. Environmentally friendly agricultural technology exchange programs and capacity building in developing countries could be positive steps to create better food security. It is important to also involve local communities in the planning and implementation of projects related to food security. Community involvement not only increases program effectiveness, but also strengthens their social and economic resilience to future crises. Ultimately, although the challenges of global drought are enormous, with collaborative efforts and continued innovation, we can overcome these challenges and promote strong food security around the world.
